Gladys - Kenya

A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as seeds, fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides.

Gladys's story

Get to know Gladys. Gladys has advanced to one of the most respected women in Kenyenya, in a humble village where she lives. Farming is the main economic activity in her village. In Kenyenya, smallholder farmers have dominated the region, undertaking various farming activities on their farms. Unfortunately, these farmers face many challenges, including the high costs of farm inputs.

Gladys, 44 years old, is a hardworking mother. Gladys has experienced these challenges, but she always seeks a solution and moves ahead. She has been farming for the last 40 years. Gladys has been selling crops, milk and eggs in the local market.

Juhudi Kilimo partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholders around Kenya. Through these financial services, farmers in Kenyenya now can afford productive agricultural assets and important agricultural inputs for use on their farms.

Gladys requested a loan which she will use to buy farm inputs such as seeds, fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides. The loan will enable her to improve her production through the use of quality farm inputs. This intervention will help her fill the increasing demand for food in the market and, in the process, generate more income to repay the loan debt and elevate the quality of life for her family.

Gladys hopes for your unselfish support and is very thankful in advance.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
